Juvenile Criminal Law
Juvenile law is a separate body of criminal law and applies only to children under 18. Our legal system understands that children are different than adults and don't have the same abilities to make decisions, enter contracts, or even drive when they are younger than 16. For children with disabilities, the ability to make appropriate decisions can be even more compromised. In many cases a juvenile criminal charge and school discipline and issues go hand in hand. In fact many criminal charges can arise from issues at school including battery, assault, intimidation, as well as many others.
Many children with disabilities have to face a court system that doesn't understand their disability or needs. We are dedicated to ensuring that the prosecutor and probation department are provided accurate information as to the situation, your child's background, challenges, and unique situation. My philosophy is focused on working with you and your child to ensure that every area of his or her life is protected - their education, their academic and criminal record, their ability to get employment, and their future. We strive to ensure that charges are properly adjudicated or dismissed and to preserve your child's future and dreams.
